Wireless or Wired Network (09.03.08)

Postby Daniel on Sun Mar 09, 2008 9:57 am

If you had to create a home network would you Wire the computers up to the router or would you use wireless.

Wired

The advantages of having a wired network are if none of the wireless on the router is being used you should just disable the wireless networking so nobody can access you router as easily.

Wireless

Well the advantage is in the name there are no wires. The disadvantages is sometimes wireless adapters take longer to connect or are slower operating. If you are using a wireless network you should setup WEP Or WPA-PSK (WPA) is the most secure. WEP and WPA are both types of security that you can add to your router they require a password to connect to the router.

wired is just more reliable and more secure. all you get for wireless is convienence, its just not worth it.

I find they both have their time and place.
In my case it's wireless because the router is upstairs and
my computer is downstairs. Wired is good because the
connections are more reliable and faster, the downside is you
are confined to a single room. I hate that so I like wireless better.

I use both. Wired for desktops, and wireless for laptops.

The setup I used to have was wired for a workstation and a server with wireless for laptops. Works out pretty well, and you get the speed where you really need it.
