Leave Your Computer On Or Turn It Off

Postby brandnew on Sun Feb 10, 2008 11:12 pm

Do you leave your computer on or turn it off?

Some people believe a computer is less likely to burn out if it is left on 24/7

However some belive that leaveing it on will ware it out .

I turn it off to help prvent dust from collecting inside of the computer.

Please vote on witch one you think is best for your computer

I leave my computer on 24/7. It might get a 2 minute break once during the week.

I've tried leaving my computer on 24/7 as i almost always have downloads going on but i believe that it's better to turn it off as after leaving it on for a few weeks, i noticed how it got slower and slower and now my computer is really slow... :(

I think this not a good question to ask. We have various options. if you are in the middle of your work, you can hibernate it or put it in the stand by, but if its not in important use, its better you shutdown it.

I'd much rather keep it on all the time since my room is decently cold even in the summer but... My bro is against me on it so he ends up turning it off.

I think it's better to turn it off if you will be away for a long time.
My problem is that I always forget the computer is still on.

I have a USB extension lead that has blue LED’S so I can easily tell when my computer is on.

I leave my computer on all the time, partially because I use it enough,
but also because it doesn't like cold-booting. It's a pain sometimes.

If your computer starts getting slow when you leave it on, simply log off and then log back in.

Personally, I prefer to shut down my computer (or use hibernate or stand by when appropriate). Overheating can be a problem, even in desktop computers, and leaving the computer on only increases that risk.
